I have been a student at Shubham since it was founded. I started learning Odissi in person with Bornalee ma'am, and now learn Kathak remotely with Barnalee and Sujoya ma'am. The teaching quality is extremely high, with personalized attention, and a focus towards performance readiness and attention to detail. There is a good balance of focus on dance and music theory, which has helped with getting the exam certifications. I also really appreciate the community of artists that Shubham fosters, with every member of the community sharing a passion to maintain our rich culture.
I have always been deeply passionate about Odissi dance form, though I began my formal training only in my 40s. At Shubham, the teaching techniques are thoughtfully customised to suit the age and needs of each student. The regular body-conditioning sessions have helped me build strength and gradually mould myself into the dance form with grace and confidence. My deepest gratitude to my Gurus, Smt. Bornalee Sarkar and Smt. Shomrita Mandal, for their patience and guidance in shaping my dance journey.
It is run by a person who puts her heart soul and hardwork into Shubham ❤️❤️ . The level of dedication is seen in performances by her students and the connections with her disciples is remarkable.Way to go Shubham!
A committed bunch of budding artists, bubbling with fun, enthusiasm and passion for the art.
I have been associated with Shubham, A School of Performing Arts from the mid of 2023 and I am delighted to say that every time I visit Shubham, I'm welcomed with open hearts, hugs, good food and lots of learning. When I went to Shubham for the very first time, I still remember the conversation I had with Bornalee Didi & Sujaya didi with a cup of tea. I sang some folk songs too. Never felt, I am meeting them for the first time. Although I am a Kathak dancer, I fell in love with Odissi after seeing the process of learning in Shubham. I became part of two of the beautiful productions of Bornalee Didi, Sampoorna, The concept of Punya Maati and Shyama. These both productions gave me an encyclopedia of understanding the various aspects of dance, like movements, music, rasas and expression. Im beyond grateful to be chosen to be a part of them. During the process of learning and teaching, Bornalee didi never gave me a hard mould to dance in, she used to describe the situation and leave me to think and convey it through movements and emotions and it was very new, challenging and sometimes scary for me. I understood one thing from it that you can never pretend while emoting through movements. Within these 2 years approx, I have learnt to move and emote better with Shubham and would like to thank Shubham and Bornalee Didi for walking this path of evolution with me.
